Exploring Creativity With Light: a unique workshop at the High School in Ferrara

Do you remember your high school days, the moments when you felt inspired, passionate and eager to learn? That was what I experienced when I organized a light-painting workshop in an Italian high school, Liceo Artistico Dosso Dossi in Ferrara.

For five days, I had the opportunity to share my expertise and inspire the students with my project Sublument. In this blog post, I will share my journey in creating a workshop that sparked creativity and provided knowledge to students.

Day 1: the basics

On the first day of the workshop, the students were introduced to the basics of photography. I taught them about shutter speed, iso, and aperture, and how these settings can impact the quality of the photo. I also introduced them to light-painting, the technique that I use in my project Sublument. I explained my project, how I founded it, and what it means to me. The students were eager to learn and absorb the information.

Practice makes perfect; from basic shapes, the students progressed to create circles using light-painting tubes. We also worked on composition, posing, and movement to create a beautiful light-painting.

Day 3: complex shapes and portraits

From basic shapes, the students progressed to more complex shapes using various colors. We created close-up portraits using smaller light-painting tools, and the students were thrilled with the results. Their confidence grew as they became more proficient in creating beautiful light-paintings.

I explained the significance of communication and showcasing their artwork to the right audience. They left with a newfound appreciation for how to market their work.
