Do you remember your high school days, the moments when you felt inspired, passionate and eager to learn? That was what I experienced when I organized a light-painting workshop in an Italian high school, Liceo Artistico Dosso Dossi in Ferrara.
For five days, I had the opportunity to share my expertise and inspire the students with my project Sublument. In this blog post, I will share my journey in creating a workshop that sparked creativity and provided knowledge to students.
Day 1: the basics
On the first day of the workshop, the students were introduced to the basics of photography. I taught them about shutter speed, iso, and aperture, and how these settings can impact the quality of the photo. I also introduced them to light-painting, the technique that I use in my project Sublument. I explained my project, how I founded it, and what it means to me. The students were eager to learn and absorb the information.
Day 2: simple shapes
Practice makes perfect; from basic shapes, the students progressed to create circles using light-painting tubes. We also worked on composition, posing, and movement to create a beautiful light-painting.
Day 3: complex shapes and portraits
From basic shapes, the students progressed to more complex shapes using various colors. We created close-up portraits using smaller light-painting tools, and the students were thrilled with the results. Their confidence grew as they became more proficient in creating beautiful light-paintings.
Day 4: post-processing with Photoshop
On the fourth day, post-processing was examined. The students learned how to process raw files using Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop. I shared my techniques with them, and they were excited to learn how to enhance their photos even further.
Day 5: how to promote your art
The final day of the workshop was dedicated to teaching the students how to promote their art correctly on social media platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. I explained the significance of communication and showcasing their artwork to the right audience. They left with a newfound appreciation for how to market their work.
In conclusion, organizing a light-painting workshop at an Italian high school was an amazing experience that I will forever cherish. The enthusiasm and energy of the students were remarkable. Their creativity and artistic ability were breathtaking.
I am grateful for this opportunity to share my experience and inspire the next generation to pursue their dreams. I hope that the students gained insights into light-painting that may influence their careers in photography or art in the future.
Lastly, a massive shoutout to Liceo Artistico Dosso Dossi for providing me with this opportunity.
