Subterranean Light Art: 300 Meters Underground in Poland

Stepping into an entirely new dimension for Sublument meant creating light-painting art 300 meters underground in the historic Guido Mine in Zabrze, Silesia, Poland. This incredible opportunity took place during May 2025 and transformed the deep coal mine into a truly ethereal stage. Embracing such a unique environment offered a rare chance to blend industrial history with luminous expression.

This ambitious session was made possible through a collaboration with Angelika Bławat, a brilliantly smart project manager who organized everything perfectly. She also acted as our muse for the day, demonstrating boundless energy and composure that were exactly what we needed in such a challenging subterranean environment. Angelika introduced us to our guide for the excursion, Łukasz Zawada, who proved to be not only a fantastic host but also a talented and incredibly precise photographer himself.

For a couple of hours we navigated the depths of the mine with Łukasz expertly guiding us to the perfect spots that truly lent themselves to our photographic needs. Angelika was exceptional at holding her poses and maintaining the perfect mood. Being able to rely on such stamina allowed us to sculpt light in ways I had never experienced before. Pushing the boundaries of what is possible with light and shadow in total darkness was a remarkable journey.

I am immensely grateful to Łukasz for dedicating his time and to Angelika for making the initial contact and arranging this unforgettable visit.
